We are seeking a Director of Tax with experience to lead our tax strategy, compliance, and oversight. This role is pivotal in shaping our tax strategy and offers the chance to expand into broader finance management responsibilities, including oversight of payroll and other functions. The Director of Tax must possess a “can do” attitude and be readily willing to roll up their sleeves while working in a fast passed and evolving environment. The successful candidate will have a strong background in US and international tax planning, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, both internally and externally.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute tax strategies aligned with company objectives and regulatory requirements, optimizing tax efficiencies.
  • Oversee all tax compliance facets, encompassing federal, state, and international filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain and update the existing tax policies, processes, and control environment in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage tax provisions, including ASC 740 calculations, to accurately reflect financial statements and support reporting requirements.
  • Lead tax audits, working closely with external auditors and tax authorities for effective resolution of inquiries.
  • Provide guidance on tax implications for business initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring tax-efficient strategies for product launches, partnerships, etc.
  • Analyze financial data and provide strategic recommendations to senior management

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification is strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, including a background in a Big Four accounting firm, within the bio-tech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry strongly preferred.
  • Profound understanding of tax laws, regulations, and compliance at federal, state, and international levels.
  • Strong grasp of financial accounting principles, tax planning, and transfer pricing strategies.
  • Experience managing tax audits and working with external auditors and tax authorities.
  • Strong understanding of commercial business, ideally in the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic recommendations based on financial data
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities, while filling gaps as needed
  • Ability to deliver thoughtful and clear work products to a high standard and communicate this effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to be productively assertive and able to lead without direct authority to problem-solve collaboration and program issues with cross-functional teams.
  • Track record of excellent judgment: an ability to make decisions independently and to know when appropriate to partner with senior management for decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to combine attention to detail with big picture perspective, operationalizing via excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
