Vice President, Government Affairs
Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.
Role Overview:
Vice President, Government Affairs
Madrigal is seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President of Government Affairs to lead the development and execution of comprehensive government relations strategies. This position will play a crucial role in shaping and executing our interactions with government entities and advocating for our organizational policy priorities. Candidates for this role must have a strong command of healthcare policy, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and an ability collaborate cross-functionally to support Madrigal’s policy objectives. The Vice President, Government Affairs reports into the Chief Commercial Officer.
Position Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive government affairs strategies to advance Madrigal's policy objectives.
- Strategic Leadership: A focus on designing and implementing a forward-looking U.S. government affairs strategy on a national and scale. Integration of government affairs strategies into broader corporate objectives emphasizing collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team and the U.S. Leadership Team.
- Advocacy: Serve as the principal liaison with federal, state, and local government officials, agencies, and legislative bodies. Advocate for policies that support our mission and strategic goals.
- Policy Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of proposed legislation and regulations. Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership on potential impacts and opportunities. Leadership in developing Madrigals positions on complex policy issues with a cross-functional approach.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, industry groups, and advocacy organizations. Representation on policy-related committees, industry task forces, and public forums highlighting a broader industry influence. Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance Madrigal's policy objectives. Ensure internal collaboration in particular with Market Access, Patient Advocacy, Corporate Communications, as well as Executive and U.S. Leadership.
- Communication: Develop and deliver clear and compelling messages to government officials, stakeholders, and the public. Prepare talking points, position papers, and other materials to effectively communicate Madrigal's positions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Support the company's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that may impact Madrigal's operations. Provide guidance for internal teams to align compliance with regulatory changes while maintaining operational excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience government affairs, public policy, or a related field, with a focus on healthcare/biopharma.
- Proven ability to develop and lead government relations strategies at the national level.
- Deep understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks impacting healthcare / biopharma.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Established network within government agencies, legislative bodies and industry groups.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex policy issues.
- Office-based; up to 30% travel.
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
