Director, New Product Planning and Portfolio Strategy
Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.
Role Overview:
Director, New Product Planning & Portfolio Strategy
As the Director, New Product Planning & Portfolio Strategy, you will play a critical role in shaping Madrigal’s strategic growth by leading due diligence efforts, conducting commercial assessments, and informing key investment decisions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to refine forecast assumptions for the NASH portfolio and establish capabilities for evaluating future business development opportunities.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Commercial Strategy & Operations while supporting the Chief Business Officer and SVP of Business Operations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Due Diligence Support: Lead commercial assessments and due diligence efforts for business development opportunities, including acquisitions, in-licensing, partnerships, and indication expansions.
- Market Research & Insights: Generate insights through qualitative/quantitative research and secondary data analysis to support evidence strategies for emerging opportunities.
- Prevalence-Based Forecasting: Develop global prevalence-based forecasts to inform business development decisions and portfolio prioritization.
- Forecast Management: Drive updates to the NASH F4c global forecast, establish key assumptions, and support global forecasting efforts across the portfolio as needed.
- Valuation & Risk Management: Establish best practices for asset valuation and risk adjustment, ensuring robust and repeatable analyses.
- Database Management: Create and maintain an analog database for portfolio strategy analysis.
- Therapeutic Area Expertise: Serve as an internal subject matter expert in adjacent disease states, including immunology, metabolic, and cardiovascular.
- Analytical Tool Development: Develop methodical analytical tools, forecast models, and processes to enhance leadership decision-making and strategic alignment.
- Performance Support: Proactively support performance reviews, including Board Meetings, Quarterly Performance Reviews, and Forecast Reviews.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure alignment and data integrity across internal teams, including commercial, medical, supply chain, and finance functions.
- Vendor Management: Cultivate relationships with market research, competitive intelligence, and analytics vendors to ensure project success.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships across the commercial organization and engage external partners to identify unmet needs and generate actionable insights.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MSc, Ph.D.) preferred.
- Experience:
- 8-10 years of professional experience, or 6-8 years with an advanced degree.
- At least 8 years in marketing, business development, finance, commercial forecasting, analytics, or management consulting.
- Global experience strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Tableau.
- Expertise in secondary data sources and search techniques.
- Therapeutic Area Experience: Background in Immunology, Cardiovascular, or Metabolic Disease strongly preferred.
- Core Competencies:
- Strong consultative skills (problem-solving, hypothesis generation, data analysis).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and project management abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated success supporting senior leadership with forecasting and analytics.
- Vendor management experience.
- Strong collaboration, accountability, and cross-functional leadership capabilities.
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
